Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education and Citizenship Education

All schools should make provision for personal, social, health and economic education, drawing on good practice’ National Curriculum Guidance.

At All Saints’ C.E. Primary School, we aim to promote healthy, independent and responsible members of society. We encourage all our pupils to play a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community through class & school councils, fundraising events, supporting nominated charities and involvement in community activities. Our pupils are given opportunities in PSHE & Citizenship and SEAL assemblies to develop confidence, self-motivation and an understanding of their rights and responsibilities within our diverse society.

We teach PSHE & Citizenship in a variety of ways: as a discrete subject, through focus weeks, via assemblies and through other subjects such as RE, history, geography, English, mathematics and science, as well as through outdoor educational visits, community work and activities.

The PSHE and Citizenship curriculum at All Saints’ C.E. Primary School

It is paramount that the learning our pupils do at All Saints’ C.E. Primary is meaningful and helps them to develop into well rounded individuals, who use initiative when dealing real life challenges. For this reason, we have developed the curriculum so that it is a holistic, integrated approach to children’s Personal, Social, Health and Economic education. This curriculum is still developing as we aim towards a bespoke curriculum which caters towards the needs of our children at All Saints’.  The curriculum covers eleven key life skills children should master before eleven! They are:

  • Developing Healthy Lifestyles
  • Managing Relationships
  • Effective Decision Making
  • Communicating Clearly
  • Understanding Rights and Responsibilities
  • Coping with Life
  • The Art of Thinking
  • Managing Finances
  • Goal Setting
  • Engaging in the Community
  • Managing Media

Extra Curricular Opportunities

We offer a range of different activities, clubs and competitions for the children to get involved in. We believe in promoting pupil voice, getting children immersed in school life and supporting their local community.

Diversity Defenders is a KS2 club that allows children to take a more “hands-on” approach to the way PSHE is taught at All Saints’. They help to plan and lead assemblies, as well as informing how the next half-term’s topic will be taught in school.
